We welcome Moira Ross to our next Hampshire Pop Up Studios event on the 6th & 7th December in Stockbridge. Moira exhibited with us at our very first event and we are very excited to have her come back.
Moira carves the most amazing stone sculptures from Maltese Limestone. A beautifully tactile stone, it is fairly soft to work with and can be hand carved with rasps and shaped and polished with sandpaper. Moira carves many different subjects ranging from the abstract, to animals and fruits such as pears and quinces. She deliberately keeps detailing to a minimum to let the natural beauty of the stone come through.
Moira gained her HND in Fine Art in 2006 at Salisbury College. Since then she has furthered her training through attending workshops. This led her to find her true artistic love, stone carving. While she finds stone carving satisfies her tactile needs, she uses painting and photography to explore the more colourful side of art. She is currently exploring adding colour through different materials, including found objects, to her stone sculpture.
Moira works from her studio in Salisbury and regularly runs courses in Stone Carving to pass her knowledge and skill onto others.
Moira is a member of Sarum Artists which regularly exhibits in Salisbury and Dorset. She has also participated in several local exhibitions. Her first solo exhibition was in June 2009. Have a look below at some more of Moira’s wonderful work.
